A view over Brimham Rocks

Brimham Rocks

Brimham Rocks are balancing rock formations found on Brimham Moor. The rocks stand at a height of nearly 30 feet in an area owned by the National Trust, which is part of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is open to the public.

The landscape was created by an "immense river 100 million years before the first dinosaurs walked the earth", according to the National Trust.

Naturally, such incredible formations have become associated with legend and lore. Many of the formations have been named, including the Lover's Rock, the Wishing Stone and the Rocking Stone. If you wish to use the Wishing Stone, you are advised to place your middle finger in the hole and make a wish. The Rocking Stone is said to only able to be moved by an honest man.
